Credit Card Payment
The credit card companies have brought in stringent rules regarding holding of credit card details. The short answer is you can't store credit card details. In fact writing them down, or entering the card number or details on your own workstations is likely to lead to heavy fines if you are caught. This means the Basket on your website MUST NOT take card details directly. Your website MUST hand off the process to the payment provider. This is not as bad as it sounds, and TOPS does this automatically when your customers order through the TOPS Web front end, or when you take an order over the phone, type in a faxed order, or capture a mailed order.
Unfortunately banks will not deal with software developers directly but only on behalf of a customer. So, if we don't have an interface to your payment provider, and you have a specific need, and have an account with the provider, please let us know and we'll build the interface. In fact, the card details are stored by the payment provider and you can get back sufficient details from them to help a customer with repeat orders.
This also impacts on the way orders are paid for for delivery in the future. You may make an agreement with your customer to take payment up front, or to collect payment a short time before you dipsatch the order.
Initial Setup
We also offer to import all your company data into TOPS. That means we need to look at your customer and product data. We will then quote you for the work – or help you to prepare your data yourself for the final transfer.
Carriers
Unfortunately like the banks Carriers will normally not deal with software developers directly but only on behalf of a customer. So, if we don't have an interface to your carrier, and you have a specific need, and have an account with the carrier, please let us know and we'll build the interface. You may just use good old Royal Mail and need no other carrier interface at all. Please first discuss it with us before you make any decisions
